Sony Step Up 0
Well, I’m not gonna bother writing much here, when there has just been a flurry, yes, a flurry of Sony updates. So I’m just gonna link you with Kotaku’s up-to-date feed:
Sony’s hooked up with Warner, Fox, Lion’s Gate, Disney, MGM and others to bring video rental to the PS3. Video is set to be fully integrated into the PlayStation Store, said Sony’s Jack Tretton at the company’s E3 press event.
A video button in the PlayStation Store will have separate categories for TV and film to choose from, and movies can also be listed by studio. The Eye and Reservoir Dogs were seen in the store during the demonstration, though currently 85 are available for rental in standard definition.
According to PSN’s Eric Lempel, it takes about an hour to download one of the rented films. Price points vary too - $15 to purchase, $6 to rent in HD, and $4 to rent in SD.
The AVC-format videos downloaded to PS3 can also be transferred to the PSP via a USB cable.
The service launches tonight!
LocoRoco 2, Resistance: Retribution Among New PSP Titles
Sony’s Bend studio is currently working on Resistance: Retribution, coming to PSP in Spring 2009. After showing that title, a third-person shooter faithful to the first game, Sony’s Jack Tretton casually dropped a few more:
LocoRoco 2, Patapon 2, NBA 09: Inside, Super Stardust Portable, Buzz! Master Quiz, Valkyria Chronicles and Midnight Club: Los Angeles Remix.
“We’ve always felt that the PSP was one of the keys to Sony owning the living room,” Tretton said.
At Sony’s E3 2008 press conference, Jack Tretton announced a 80 GB PS3 “Core Pack” that’ll go for $400 — “the same functionality of the 40 GB… with twice the storage,” he said.
“This new 80 GB PS3 is perfectly suited for HD games, music, movies and more.”
God of War III Announced for PS3
A brief trailer toward the end of Sony’s news conference at E3 today gave a glimpse of God of War III, just announced for the PS3. The trailer was all pre-rendered, featuring Kratos atop the rubble of a ruined city, bellowing “In the end, there will be only chaos!”
PS3 “Massive Action Game” Announced; Promises Battles Up to 256 Players
Sony saved the final announcement of its E3 keynote for a concept using the placehold title of “MAG: Massive Action Game,” Unveiled by Andy Beaudoin from Zipper Interactive, MAG — whose trailer looked like “SOCOM set 15 years into the future,” according to our eyes on the scene, will immerse players in large online battles of up to 256 players. The trailer featured multiple terrain types, complex tactics, and sounds very much like a SOCOM MMO at this stage.
